Can You Connect Your HG PureWater RO System to Your Fridge?

Yes. HG PureWater customers have already connected their RO systems to refrigerators, making this an option worth discussing when planning your kitchen drinking-water setup.

If your fridge has a plumbed water dispenser or ice maker, you may want to supply it from your HG PureWater RO system alongside your drinking-water tap. The key is to plan the connection around your refrigerator and kitchen layout. For HG PureWater fridge connections, the connection distance must not exceed 10 metres.

An option already used by HG PureWater customers

This is an arrangement that HG PureWater customers have already put into practice. Rather than treating the fridge as a completely separate water supply, you can discuss including it when arranging your HG drinking-water system.

The existing customer experience confirms that connecting to a fridge is feasible. Your own installation still needs to account for the refrigerator’s inlet requirements, the route between the system and the fridge, and access for future servicing. Share your fridge model and intended layout with HG PureWater so the proposed connection can be checked before installation.

Keep the connection within 10 metres

The distance limit is an important starting point: the connection between the HG PureWater RO system and the refrigerator must not exceed 10 metres.

When planning, show the installer the proposed tubing route, including any sections through cabinetry or around obstacles. A fridge that looks close to the sink may require a less direct connection once the kitchen layout is considered. Have the installer confirm the route and its length before the work is agreed.

If your proposed connection exceeds 10 metres, discuss a different layout with HG PureWater. Do not assume that extending the line beyond the stated limit will provide an acceptable installation.

Plan the route through your kitchen

In an existing kitchen, begin with the location of your HG PureWater system and the fridge’s water inlet. Consider what lies between them, such as cabinets, a dishwasher, an oven space or an open walkway.

The installer can assess a suitable route, specify the appropriate fittings and protect the tubing from pinching or damage. Access also matters: you should be able to move the refrigerator for cleaning or servicing without placing strain on its water connection.

For a kitchen under construction or renovation, raise the fridge connection while cabinetry and service routes are being planned. This gives the builder and plumber an opportunity to consider it before finishes are completed.

Check the fridge’s connection requirements

Have the fridge’s exact model number ready and consult its Australian installation instructions. The installer should check the specified water inlet conditions and how the proposed HG PureWater connection will meet them.

Whirlpool’s refrigerator guidance, for example, identifies pressure as a consideration when an RO system supplies a fridge. Use your own refrigerator’s instructions for its requirements, rather than applying another model’s figures.

If the fridge contains an internal water filter, confirm the manufacturer’s instructions for retaining it or using an approved bypass. An external RO connection does not automatically mean the cartridge should simply be removed.

Include servicing in the installation plan

Keep the system and connection accessible for maintenance. Follow the relevant HG PureWater product instructions and the fridge manufacturer’s commissioning and cleaning guidance.

Before handover, ask the installer to explain the water isolation point and check operation of the dispenser and ice maker, where fitted. Keep a record of the arrangement so future servicing is straightforward.

Discuss your fridge connection with HG PureWater

Send us your fridge brand and model, your existing or proposed HG PureWater RO system, and photographs showing the system location, fridge space and route between them. Include the estimated connection distance.

Contact HG PureWater to discuss your setup and available installation support. With the connection kept within 10 metres and the layout checked in advance, you can plan a fridge supply around your HG PureWater drinking-water system.
